memories to remember: memories of may — growing through sun and storms

May was a month filled with moments both big and small, highs and lows, but ultimately full of growth and connection. From celebrations of culture and milestones to the inevitable stormy days and tender moments with family, there’s so much to reflect on as we move into June.

Bahamas Day at Liam’s Best Friend’s School
One of the highlights of May was attending Bahamas Day at Liam’s best friend’s school. It was such a wonderful experience to see all the kids come together and celebrate our rich culture of the Bahamas. Liam and I got the chance to learn more about Junkanoo (a Bahamian festival), and it was such a fun and educational time for both of us. The best part? Having an amazing lunch with Liam’s godmother and her family afterward. Good food, great company – what more could you ask for?

Church’s 140th Anniversary
Our church marked a huge milestone this May, celebrating 140 years of faith and community. It was a special moment for all of us, a reminder of the importance of heritage and how we’re all connected through a shared history. Being part of such a meaningful occasion was truly a blessing.

More Sun, More Fun
We've definitely been making the most of the sunny days this month! Whether it was riding our bikes, enjoying outdoor activities, or simply soaking in the beautiful weather, Liam and I had a blast. I even bought him his very first water table. Watching him splash around and explore water play was a joy. It's these little moments that remind me of the simple pleasures of summer.

The Storm That Shook Us
Mother Nature had other plans for us one day, as a big storm rolled in unexpectedly. It was intense, and in the aftermath, we found a large tree had fallen in our backyard. Thankfully, our friend stepped in with such grace and helped us remove it, which made a world of difference. Life has a way of throwing curveballs, but it’s these acts of kindness that make everything feel just a little bit more manageable.

Play Date in the Dark
We had an unexpected power outage this month, but instead of letting it ruin the day, Liam and I decided to make the best of it. We went over to Liam’s godmother’s house for a play date with her son, and it ended up being one of the most fun days. We spent the afternoon enjoying lunch, chatting, and playing at the seesaw center. Sometimes it’s the unplanned moments that turn out to be the best.

Liam’s Spider-Man Phase
Speaking of fun moments, Liam has officially entered his Spider-Man phase! As a mom, it’s always so exciting to see my little one develop new interests. I’ve been picking up a few Spider-Man-themed items here and there, and my favorite purchase so far has to be the Spider-Man rain boots. I mean, can you picture it? A little superhero stomping through puddles in the cutest boots ever. I’m sure they’ll be his favorite for a long time.

Big Boy Room Plans
As Liam grows, I’ve been thinking more and more about transitioning him into a big boy room. I asked him what he wanted, and without hesitation, he said, “Planes!” So, a plane's theme it is! I’ve been slowly curating ideas on Pinterest, but honestly, I’m waiting for my husband (who is an architect) to help me bring it all to life. I’d love for him to create a 3D plan so I can get a better sense of the space and how everything will fit. Liam’s room has always been minimalistic, and I want to keep it that way while still making it a space that reflects his growing personality. I’m excited to see how it all comes together.

The Struggles of Motivation
If I’m being honest, May was also a month of personal struggles. I’ve been feeling a bit down, creatively and emotionally, and it’s definitely affected my motivation. I haven’t been as active as I would like, and my health journey has taken a backseat. But I’m giving myself grace. Life isn’t always easy, and sometimes you need to allow yourself to rest and reset. It’s okay to not have everything together all the time. My husband and I had a deep conversation about it, and we’ve decided to help each other stay motivated, especially when things feel hard. It’s a reminder that we’re in this together, and we can push each other to show up and be the best versions of ourselves.

Wrapping Up May
Despite the ups and downs, May was a month of reflection, growth, and connection. We celebrated, learned, got messy, and faced challenges. But in the end, it’s all part of this beautiful journey of life. I’m excited for what’s to come in June – more adventures, more memories, and more opportunities to grow.

Here’s to making each day count, even when it feels hard. What memories did you make in May? I'd love to hear about them! Let’s keep pushing forward together.
